The fact is, we tend to think and act on everything that we do, whether it’s our work, our meals, our events, our travels, our meetings, or our conversations. And we do this because we think, “Hey, this is all good.
There are other factors that can affect how deeply and deeply ingrained our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions are, but the underlying cause is the same. This is why we often need to take breaks from our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, which makes sense because we tend to lose control over them.
Like most people, I like to take breaks from whatever I’m doing, and I often find myself getting distracted by a new story or a new TV show. The problem is that when you’re trying to learn something new, the next thing you think about is whether or not you’re taking a break. If you are, that’s fine, but if you’re not, you’re kind of forced to use the same old routine.
We don’t want to be forced to break things, but I like to break things a little more.
It’s like when we go to a new restaurant and we just can’t stop at the first thing we see. We tend to want to keep going because by then we know we’ll get to the next thing and the next thing and the next thing.. we just don’t know how it works.
But it doesnt really matter if youre going to break things, its the same thing we all did when we were kids. Its just for the sake of it.
The best thing about forcing yourself to use the same routine is that you get to enjoy the new habit. You learn to appreciate the parts that you don’t really need, or that you use as a crutch.
Just like school we were forced to use the same routine. The only difference is that that school routine did not include any social interaction. And the only reason we went to school was because we all spent our free time figuring out how to do this or that.
And that was always the best part of school. You were not just “helping” each other, you were each other. It was a time to be in community with the best friend, the one who made you feel good about yourself.
For a long time, our school routine was centered around our “friends.” We all had a set of friends that we were certain we would never see again. After a while, everyone started going to school and they stopped seeing each other. And then the school routine started to change. The social interaction that we had before shifted to something more of an “us vs them” mode. And that didn’t leave us friends.
