There’s no question that for many of us, growing up in a family in which we were taught to respect our elders is not an easy thing to do. As a society, we have a moral obligation to respect our elders, but there is a dark side to this. The idea that we can turn our backs on our parents when they are ill, when they are aging, when they are old, when they are dying, is a deeply uncomfortable idea.
