There are three levels of self-awareness. There is the aware awareness, which is the awareness we have of our actions and the emotions we feel. Then there is the mis-aware awareness, which is the mis-awareness we have of our actions and the emotions we feel. And then there is the mis-aware unawareness, which is the mis-awareness we have of our actions and the emotions we feel.
While all three are important, it does make sense that mis-aware awareness is the most important. Most of our actions, routines, and emotions take place in the midst of our mis-aware awareness.
In reality, one of the hardest parts of being a human being is that we often try to get away with things we know are wrong or wrong-ish, but aren’t. This is a good thing. We can blame someone else, or blame the world, or blame ourselves, but we can’t actually change anything. We tend to get so caught up in our feelings of guilt, shame, or embarrassment that we don’t even realize we are engaging in self-deception.
How many of us really ever really stop and take a moment to remind ourselves to check our own behavior? We often think that we have perfect behavior and that we are always doing the right thing, but the truth is that we are often doing the wrong thing. This is particularly true when it relates to our behavior in social situations. In reality, our behavior can be very erratic, and often in ways that are not immediately evident to those around us.
This is why it is often best to find a good therapist or a better friend. We cannot control our own behavior and so we can’t really blame ourselves for bad behavior. Just look at the behavior of our friends and realize that they are in our own heads.
The best thing we can do is make friends with people who are different from us in terms of our actions. This is especially true if our friends are at least a little different in their behavior.
